What this quote means is that he is willing to not win at all unless its the correct way or with honor. this sets a good example to follow because he tries to tell us in a way that it isn't right to cheat. He wouldn't want to cheat he prefers to fail. In some cases its hard to follow this rule depending on how important it is. For example say you are going to take a test and this test will show you that you are ready to graduate and move on to college , And you cheated on it , yes you passed and everything but once you arrive to college you will see that you are not ready and you going to fall behind. That's why you have to chose the right thing at all times .
